The present course assumes no prior knowledge of the Greek language and seeks to familiarise the beginner with the basic grammar, vocabulary and constructions. By means of a simple methodology based on dialogues, basic vocabulary items and a variety of contexts, the learner gradually hones the necessary linguistic skills in order to understand and effectively use Greek up to an intermediate level. Provided with the requisite knowledge of grammar and syntax and encouraged to apply theory in a wide range of exercises, the student masters, step by step, even problematic areas, such as spelling, punctuation and pronunciation. To this end, among other features, the IPA, the International Phonetic Alphabet, is used, thus guiding the learner on the correct pronunciation of individual sounds of the language. More specifically, each chapter contains a dialogue whose main vocabulary items are explained, so that the learner can follow its meaning. Then, there is usually a BASIC VOCABULARY section, which provides students with important words and phrases falling into a specific category, such as furniture, vehicles, and so forth. Apart from this, there is always a GRAMMAR section, which presents, in a linear way, all the grammatical phenomena of the Greek language, some of which are found in the previous dialogue. Importantly, there are exercises at the end of each section, which help consolidate what has been presented in the chapter. Finally, there is THE WORLD IN GREEK section, which comprises a short text dealing with such historical, social and cultural issues as famous authors and poets, celebrated works, monuments, and current affairs, to name but a few.
In the Appendices, students can find the translations of all dialogues and texts, along with tables of verbs and nouns presented in the course of the book. The key to the exercises is also provided, which makes the present book an ideal reference tool for self-study.
Greek as a Foreign Language is also accompanied by CD's containing the recordings of the dialogues and texts. This will, no doubt, assist learners in familiarising themselves with a variety of accents, although Standard Greek is preferred in most cases. (From the publisher)

Η σειρά "ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ ΣΤΗΝ ΠΡΑΞΗ" απευθύνεται σε όσους ενδιαφέρονται να μάθουν συστηματικά την Ελληνική γλώσσα μέχρι το επίπεδο Β1 (μέτρια γνώση). Γι' αυτό το σκοπό, η μεθοδολογία που έχει εφαρμοστεί βασίζεται στην παρουσίαση διαλόγων και βασικού λεξιλογίου, ώστε να αποκτηθούν οι απαιτούμενες δεξιότητες στην παραγωγή και κατανόηση της ελληνικής γλώσσας. Χωρίς να απαιτείται προηγούμενη γνώση, σταδιακά ο μαθητής, μέσω ασκήσεων και λεπτομερών γραμματικών και συντακτικών επεξηγήσεων, εξοικειώνεται τόσο με την ελληνική γλώσσα όσο και με τον ελληνικό πολιτισμό μια και, συν τοις άλλοις, υπάρχουν κείμενα πάνω σε ιστορικά μνημεία, σημαντικά πρόσωπα των γραμμάτων και των τεχνών, και άλλα πολλά.
Στο πίσω μέρος του βιβλίου, παρουσιάζονται με εύληπτο τρόπο πίνακες με τις κλίσεις των ουσιαστικών, των επιθέτων και των ρημάτων, καθώς και οι μεταφράσεις όλων των κειμένων και των διαλόγων.
