Παρουσίαση

If Artists are not among the most creative people among us, then who are? This book explores the effect their personal spaces had in their creativity. It is the study of Space where Art was born, and it is a study of Space seen through the lense of Artists. Central Theme of focus is the space where Artists lived and worked, and through this the preferences and attitudes Artists developed toward Space. How they collaborated, communicated and cross-fertilized with Architects throughout the Art and Architectural movements in history up to the first fifteen years of the 21st century it is a book, result of many years of original research and visits to houses and studios of renowned Artists, exploring their lifelong struggles, which occasionally took metaphysical and postmortem dimensions. Yet, despite the reasons of the motivation for such museums, the space which had acted as a cradle of Art and creativity during the artist's life, became an agent for immortality after death. Thus, "Art Space" is expressive of function of life, death and after death into one. "Art Space" therefore, refers to these spaces where Artists lived and worked, to the circumstances and issues related to these spaces, as well as to the cross-fertilizational effect such spaces had to architecture in general. "Art Space" as the book proceeds and as the exploration of the chapters reveals, eventually becomes an idea and a way of life, covering the Globe, bringing together the creative community impulses of Mankind. I should perhaps avoid to say that the book and research at hand were triggered by personal obsession. Yet it would be hypocritical. My fascination with personal space had purely personal roots. As an architect I had my ideas and preconceptions about silence and its sound, the color and the touch, its fragrance ......... its unique atmosphere! The natural light animating the interiors of the large models of my students, has stamped my memory with myriad of visions, ecstatic personal experiences of awe, pleasure of the sublime, tangible exchanges of the product of the teacher- student involvement with the spatial creative process. Next to all this were the personal memories from visits and experiences of meritorious spaces all over the world. Spaces of opposites, unique ways of enclosure and methods of construction; From the undescribable spatial poetics of the subterranean houses in Santorini to the mystery of the adobe houses in New Mexico and the aetherialilty of the houses in Japan.
