A charismatic and controversial figure, Jacques Lacan was a legendary psychoanalyst, whose radical influence on twentieth-century thought was rivalled only by Freud himself. And yet, Lacan published just one book in his lifetime. Rather it was as a lecturer that he attained his reputation, disseminating his ideas to audiences that included Jean-Paul Sartre and Luce Irigaray among many other hugely influential names. The Ethics of Psychoanalysis is a transcript of one such lecture series and, indeed, one of his most important.
