Gerhard Richter is the subject of a major exhibition at Tate Modern until 8 Jan 2012.
Right from the beginning, Gerhard Richter closely linked his artistic work, his painting as well as other visual works, with the collection of their original models. These are largely - photographic "images" of various kinds which, along with other visual notes such as sketches and collages, have been entered in this "Atlas".
The photographs which Richter collects and makes provide him with models for paintings which reach a high degree of "stylization" before he goes in search of his own painting.
The present "Atlas" is in a revised - version and format created by the artist, - providing a single page for each panel. The revised publication presents 733 panels, including the "War Cut" series, with a text by Helmut Friedel. (from the publisher)
