Παρουσίαση
Witold Gombrowicz' last play, "Operetta", is a witty parody of the operetta form that combines the theme of personal identity explored in his previous plays (Princess Ivona, Playscript 13: The Marriage, Playscript 34) with a juxtaposition of both a capitalist and a Marxist society, making hilarious fun of both. Despite the play's basic seriousness of intent, it has a beautifully light touch and all the sparkle, glamour and glitter associated with the best Viennese operettas: and these qualities make it delightfully entertaining to read.
