Paul Cezanne (1839-1906) was described by Henri Matisse as 'the father of us all', by Pablo Picasso as 'the mother who protects her children', and by Paul Klee as 'the teacher par excellence'. Great praise from great artists. What makes Cezanne so special? Why do these twentieth-century artists single him out for such attention? The very familiarity of many of Cezanne's pictures is a hindrance, making it difficult to look at them with fresh eyes. His paintings are easy on the eye: the colours are to the current taste, the subjects universal - landscapes, portraits, still lifes and figures in a landscape. The paintings from the 1870s relate closely to the work of the Impressionists, the most widely known group of painters today with a vast number of exhibitions devoted to their works every year, and whose paintings command some of the highest prices. Cezanne's work too has been the subject of several major one-man shows during the last fifteen years. (. . .) (from the publisher)Κριτικές για το προϊόν
