Παρουσίαση
Erroneously considered a children's book when it was first published in 1954, this sprightly child's-eye critique of adult society was decades ahead of its time. Today Elena Poniatowska is acclaimed as one of Mexico's greatest writers, but fifty years ago she was an unknown feminist at a time when feminism was out of fashion. As a result Lilus Kikus has not received the critical attention it deserved, and this is its first publication in English. Drawings by the great surrealist Leonora Carrington embody Lilus's view of life. Accompanying Lilus Kikus in this first American edition are four of Poniatowska's short stories with female protagonists, only one of them previously published in English.
