The necessity to develop human rights education has been underlined in numerous resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the Commission on Human Rights, UNESCO and other United Nations bodies and specialized agencies. The final document of the World Conference on Human Rights (Vienna, June 1993) stressed the crucial importance of human rights education, training and public information, and proposed the proclamation of a special United Nations Decade. In accordance with this suggestion, the General Assembly declared the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education (1995-2004). The Plan of Action for the Decade placed an emphasis on the preparation of teaching aids on human rights designed for various levels of education and target groups. (...) (from the publisher)
