Epica entries held up well in 2002 despite the depressed economic climate, and a record number of countries were represented in the competition.
There was a total of 58 winners compared with 62 the previous year. Of these, 25 were film winners, 26 were print entries and 7 were for other disciplines such as interactive, direct marketing, publications and packaging design. There were also 271 finalists, entries that did not win their categories but achieved scores that would have qualified as winners.
Work from 42 countries was entered in the competition with 28 represented amongst the winners and finalists, the most successful country with a total of 51 winners and finalists, just ahead of the UK's 49. In terms of winners alone, however, France led the field with 11; ahead of the UK with 8.
Slovakia recorded its first Epica winner while Belarus, Latvia and Romania appeared on the list of finalists for the first time. [...] (From the publisher)
