With the opening of the Schlob Moyland Museum in 1997 we are able, for the first time, to offer to the public a representative selection of the works of art that we have amassed in over half a century of eager collecting as private individuals. For many years our activity as collectors has primarily been associated with the numerous works by Joseph Beuys that we have acquired, in particular works from the earlier years, which are not to be found in such a concentration in any other collection. While certainly important and distinctive, this part of our collection is far from being its only claim to interest the visitor. As will already be evident from the variety and quality of the examples illustrated in this volume, our collection is wide-ranging both in the types of art it embraces (including sculpture, paintings, drawings, prints, photography and history (around two hundred years) that it covers.
