Παρουσίαση

"This is not an interview mate, but an intense interrogation". That was the reply I received after sending my list of questions, in written form, to one of the people that I interviewed for this volume. It could be argued that, at least in a way, they were right. The interviews included here attempt to grasp as much as possible of the political life and intellectual work of the interviewees. In other words, its aim is to present their political formation as much as their positioning in key debates they engaged in throughout their academic careers.

George Souvlis's probing interviews give us insight into the minds and intellectual contributions of some of the most innovative and penetrating Marxist social scientists of our era. This book is a vital contribution to the development of critical thought on a range of theoretical dilemmas and will help us sharpen our approach to the political questions of today.
(Richard Lachmann, Professor in Comparative/Historical Sociology and Political Sociology, University at Albany, SUNY)
Artisans and partisans of socialism will be profoundly grateful to George Souvlis and his diverse interlocutors for this panoramic and intimate survey of contemporary left-radical thought and strategy. With deeply informed and judicious questions, Souvlis digs into the most pressing questions of revolutionary praxis today, with delightful attention to biography, history and theory, while weaving together various strands of Marxist, feminist and anti-colonial critique, to produce a volume of exemplary insight and inspiration.
(Kanishka Goonewardena, Associate Professor, Department of Geography and Planning, University of Toronto)
This wide-ranging compendium of interviews with key thinkers on the Marxist left is replete with insights on what C. Wright Mills once called 'the problems of history, the problems of biography and the problems of social structure in which biography and history intersect'. Highly recommended for anyone wishing to get their bearings around some of the most vital and contested areas of contemporary theorising and their urgent political stakes.
(Alberto Toscano, Reader In Critical Theory, Goldsmiths, University of London, author of Fanaticism: On the Uses of an Idea)
