This small book was written with the people of Sikinos in mind, and also to present some aspects of the island to those, Greeks and others, for whom Sikinos has become a second home and thus a permanent destination.
It is an honour and a great joy for me, that two of the latter, Anna and Bob, found it to have some merit and gave precious time and energy crafting it into English. With insights based on their personal experience and their intimate relationship with the island, they sustained the spirit and the Sikiniot perspective of the Greek text with sensitivity and perseverance, giving an excellent result - as far as the original text permitted.
The very few differences between the English version and the initial Greek text were introduced after discussions between us, in order to clarify some very long sentences or some obscure concepts. Also, the comments they added as footnotes -thanks to their personal researches- and our reference to the recent important finds in Episkopi and in Kastellos, make the English text more complete and up to date compared to the Greek version.
For the interest they showed and what they gave to the Sikinos community, of which I believe this publication is part, I wish to express to Anna and Bob my warmest thanks and my gratitude. (From the publisher)
