CONCERT STUDIES FOR GUITAR (VOLUME 4)

Με τις "Concert Studies" κλείνει ένας κύκλος παιδαγωγικών -και όχι μόνον- βιβλίων για την κιθάρα, ο οποίος ξεκίνησε με τη σειρά "Recital 1" έως και "10". Σε αυτά τα τέσσερα βιβλία βρίσκονται συγκεντρωμένα τα "θεμέλια" της Κιθαριστικής Τέχνης και η βασική διδασκαλία των μεγάλων δασκάλων που έδωσαν στην κιθάρα τη θέση που κατέχει σήμερα. Ξεκινούν δε από παλαιότερους συνθέτες, όπως τους F. Sor και F. Carulli, και καταλήγουν σε νεότερους, όπως τους J. Sagreras και A. Barrios.
Ο τίτλος της συλλογής ("Concert Studies") δεν είναι τυχαίος. Η πλειονότητα των σπουδών που θα συναντήσετε εδώ είναι μελωδικού χαρακτήρα και επομένως μπορούν κάλλιστα να παρουσιασθούν και ως συναυλιακά κομμάτια. Δεν παύουν βέβαια να είναι σπουδές, με πρωτίστως παιδαγωγική αξία και ρόλο.
Η ταξινόμηση των σπουδών έγινε με βάση το βαθμό δυσκολίας τους, ούτως ώστε καθένα από τα βιβλία αυτά να ανταποκρίνεται σε μια ωδειακή τάξη (αρ.1 - Προκαταρτική, αρ.2 - Κατωτέρα, αρ.3 - Μέση, αρ.4 - Ανωτέρα). Γι' αυτό το λόγο, άλλωστε, οι σπουδές ενός συνθέτη δημοσιεύονται εδώ διάσπαρτες. Έτσι, σύμφωνα με τη λογική αυτών των βιβλίων, οι σπουδές του M. Carcassi ή του F. Sor, για παράδειγμα, οι οποίες ξεκινούν από το επίπεδο της Κατωτέρας και φτάνουν μέχρι εκείνο της Ανωτέρας, καταχωρούνται η κάθε μία σε διαφορετική σειρά και σε διαφορετικό βιβλίο.
Δεν ήταν βέβαια δυνατόν να συμπεριληφθούν στη παρούσα συλλογή όλες οι σπουδές των επιλεγμένων συνθετών. Εντάχθηκαν λοιπόν αυτές που -κατά τη γνώμη μας- είναι οι πιο όμορφες μουσικά αλλά και οι πιο χρήσιμες παιδαγωγικά. Καταβλήθηκε επίσης προσπάθεια, ώστε η δακτυλοθεσία και των δυο χεριών να είναι όσο το δυνατόν πιο απλή και κατανοητή.
Θα θέλαμε, τέλος, να υπενθυμίσουμε τον πολύ σημαντικό ρόλο που παίζει για τη δακτυλοθεσία του αριστερού χεριού η μικρή γραμμή που σημειώνεται πριν από ορισμένους δακτυλισμούς (π.χ. -3). Αυτή υποδεικνύει ότι το δάκτυλο κρατείται στη θέση του από την προηγούμενη νότα χωρίς να σηκωθεί, χωρίς δηλαδή να χάσει την επαφή του με τη χορδή, πράγμα που δίνει στο παίξιμο τη συνοχή και το δεμένο (legato) ήχο, στοιχεία απαραίτητα για μια σωστή ερμηνεία των κομματιών αυτών. These 'Concert Studies' bring the curtain down on a series of pedagogical -but not only- books for the guitar which began with 'Recital 1' through '10'. They draw together the 'foundations' of the art of guitar playing and the basic teachings of the great pedagogues who exalted the guitar to its present status as an instrument. They begin further back in time with composers such as F. Sor and F. Carulli, and conclude with more modern composers such as J. Sagreras and A. Barrios.
The title of the collection ('Concert Studies') was not chosen randomly. The majority of the studies encountered here are melodic in character and can therefore be presented as concert pieces. They remain, however, primarily studies and first and foremost their role is a pedagogical one.
The studies have been arranged with respect to their degree of difficulty taking students from Grade 1 through to Grade 8/DipRSM. For this reason, the studies of one particular composer may appear in more than one volume on account of the studies' increasing level of difficulty.
It is, however, impossible to include all of the selected composers' studies in this collection. Those figuring here are they which, in our opinion, are musically the most interesting and the most useful from a pedagogical point of view.
Every attempt has been made to ensure that the fingerings for both the left as well as the right hand are as simple and as easy to comprehend as possible.
In conclusion, we would like to remind fellow guitarists of the importance attached to the short dash which appears before certain numbers in the left hand fingering (e.g. - 3). This dash indicates that the finger must not be lifted off the string, but rather that it must slide from the previous note to the next thus ensuring a legato effect and continuity, two factors w
