(. . .) Kontoglou’s rich and vital legacy, fane and profane, is, in the present tome, examined in chronological sequence by Nikos Zias, professor of Art History at Athens University. With the methodological accuracy of the scholar, but in a manner simple yet eloquent, the author leads the reader to that beautiful world we call Art. In Kontoglou’s case, this journey becomes also a lesson in history since he often reproduced scenes and figures drawn from the past and mythology of the Greeks, in addition to decorating churches, rendering scenes from nature, and illustrating fables and his travels; to wit, reinvigorating through pictures his own as well as the more distant past.
