(P/B) THE COMPLETE POEMS
Εκδότης: PENGUIN
Κωδ.

This volume constitutes the first major edition of Emily Bronte's complete poems to appear for half a century. 'A family in whom appears to run the instinct of song ... rising, in that of Ellis, into an inspiration,' wrote the Athenaeum, reviewing Poems (1846) by the 'three brothers' Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. Twenty-one of Emily Bronte's poems appeared in that volume, passionate songs of the spirit and of nature, and they were the only poems of hers to be published in her lifetime. For this new edition Janet Gezari has arranged the poe...

(P/B) POEMS FROM THE MOOR
Εκδότης: ALMA BOOKS
Κωδ.

From the transcendent beauty of nature observed on the Yorkshire moors to fierce and forceful confrontations of mortality, Emily Bront?'s poems are powerful and passionate works that eloquently elaborate upon her sister Charlotte's description of her as "a solitude-loving raven, no gentle dove". (P/B) THE BRONTE SISTERS: SELECTED POEMS
Εκδότης: CARCANET
Κωδ.

Although The Brontes have long fascinated readers of fiction and biography, their poetry was all too little known until this pioneering selection by Stevie Davies, the novelist and critic. Charlotte (1816-1855) is certainly a competent poet, and Anne (1820-1849) developed a distinctive voice, while Emily (1818-1848) is one of great women poets in English. All three sisters, as Stevie Davies remarks in her introduction, were Romantic in inspiration, writing poetry of passionate personal feeling and of pure imagination. They share certain t...

I have just returned from a visit to Mr Heathclif standing by a gate as I arrived at Wuthering Height: early this afternoon. Mr Heathcliff is a handsome man. But he looks like a gypsy. His eyes are dark and his hair is black. "Are you Mr Heathcliff?" I asked. He nodded his head, but did not speak to me. "I'm Lockwood, your new tenant at Thrushcross Grange," I said politely. "I thought I should call on you." He leant on the gate and stared at me. At last he said, "Come in." Then he turned and walked away from me towards the house. (From the...

(H/B) THE COLLECTED NOVELS OF THE BRONTE SISTERS
Εκδότης: WORDSWORTH
Κωδ.

Jane Eyre ranks as one of the greatest and most popular works of English fiction. Although Charlotte Bronte"'s heroine is outwardly plain, she possesses an indomitable spirit, and great courage. Forced to battle against the exigencies of a cruel guardian, a harsh employer and a rigid social order which circumscribes her life when she becomes governess to the daughter of the mysterious, sardonic Mr Rochester. Villette is based on Charlotte Bronte"'s personal experience as a teacher in Brussels. It is a moving tale of repressed feelings and ...

Over a hundred and fifty years after its initial publication, Emily Bronte"'s turbulent portrayal of the Earnshaws and the Lintons, two northern English households nearly destroyed by violent passions in the last quarter of the eighteenth century, continues to provoke and fascinate readers. Heathcliff remains one of the best-known characters in the English novel, and Catherine Earnshaw's impossible choice between two rivals retains its appeal for contemporary readers. At the same time, the novel's highly ambivalent representations of domes...
