Όσα χρόνια ζήσαμε μαζί, ο πατέρας μου δεν έπαιρνε παρά μόνο προχωρημένους μαθητές. Παρ' όλα αυτά, όταν έγινα εννέα χρονών (1933) δέχθηκε ν' αναλάβει τη διδασκαλία μου, και μάλιστα από τα πρώτα μαθήματα. Στη μέθοδο διδασκαλίας του δεν ακολούθησε καμμιά τεχνική από τις συνηθισμένες που εφαρμόζονται στις καθιερωμένες «σχολές πιάνου». Στην αρχή μ' έβαζε να τραγουδώ μόνο.
