Η ευχαρίστηση που δημιουργείται με την παράδοση του έργου τούτου στους μελετητές της ελληνικής αρχαιότητας μειώνεται από το ότι εκείνοι που ανέλαβαν τη σύνταξή του και, ο καθένας κατά τον χρόνο που του είχε οριστεί, την έφεραν σε πέρας, δεν βρίσκονται ανάμεσά μας για να ιδούν τη μορφή που έλαβαν οι κόποι τους. Ancient tradition held Dodona to be the oldest of the Greek oracles and unique in its time. "Topography": The Oracle of the Dead, ancient Nekyomanteion or Necromanteion (nekys, nekros = dead person), stands on the north bank of the Acheron river in the Nomos of Preveza, western Epirus. DAS NEKYOMANTEION AM ACHERON
«Die Lage»: Am Nordufer des Flusses Acheron im westlichen Epiros im Verwaltungsbezirk Preveza lag in der Antike ein Totenorakel, ein Nekyomanteion oder Nekromanteion (νέκυς = νεκρός = tot). Diese heilige Statte gehorte Thesprotien, in dem die Thesproter siedelten, die sich als einer der ersten griechischen Stamme um 2000 v.Chr. im Epiros niederliessen und dort ein grosses Gebiet beherrschten.
