With hindsight we can see a still life Claude Monet painted at the outset of his long and prolific career (p. 6) as a programmatic statement. A painter's brushes, paintbox and palette, as well as books, are on a table, with weapons against and above it, and as a backdrop wallpaper featuring vegetation, water and exotic birds, in the manner of an old tapestry. Η νεκρή φύση που ζωγράφισε ο Κλωντ Μονέ στο ξεκίνημα της μακράς και γόνιμης καριέρας του, λειτουργεί σαν ένα είδος προγραμματικής δήλωσης.
