«Αποφάσισα να χωρίσω το έργο μου σε δεκατέσσερα βιβλία. Το πρώτο από αυτά περιέχει όλες τις εντολές που αποτελούν τη βάση του θρησκευτικού νόμου του Δασκάλου μας Μωϋσή, ας αναπαύεται εν ειρήνη, που ο άνθρωπος πρέπει να γνωρίζει πριν από όλους τους άλλους νόμους. Αυτοί είναι οι κανόνες της Ενότητας του Θεού, ευλογημένο ας είναι το Όνομά του, και οι απαγορεύσεις εναντίον της ειδωλολατρίας.
