ΠΕΡΙ ΤΗΣ ΑΡΧΑΙΑΣ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗΣ ΖΩΓΡΑΦΙΚΗΣ
Ο Γάιος Πλίνιος Σεκούνδος, ο επιλεγόμενος Πρεσβύτερος, γεννήθηκε το 23 ή 24 μ.Χ. στο Κόμο της Βόρειας Ιταλίας και πέθανε στις 24 Αυγούστου του 79 μ.Χ. πνιγμένος από τους δηλητηριώδεις ατμούς της έκρηξης του Βεζουβίου που κατέστρεψε την Πομπηία. Στρατιωτικός ψηλά στην ιεραρχία και διοικητής επαρχίας, υπηρέτησε από την Ισπανία μέχρι τη Συρία. Ιστορικός και εγκυκλοπαιδιστής, υπήρξε πολυγραφότατος και πολυσχιδής συγγραφέας.
