Πρόθεσή μου, όταν σκέφτηκα για πρώτη φορά τον τρόπο συγκρότησης αυτού του τόμου, ήταν να παρουσιαστεί ο Ε. Α. Ο Έντγκαρ Άλαν Πόε γεννήθηκε στη Βοστώνη το 1809, από γονείς θεατρίνους. Πριν κλείσει τα δύο του χρόνια, οι γονείς του πέθαναν, και ο Έντγκαρ βρέθηκε στο Ρίτσμοντ, στο σπίτι του εμπόρου Τζων Άλλαν, που όμως δεν τον υιοθέτησε ποτέ.
